I'm a ComFestian now!

For those of you who don’t know, ComFest (Community Festival) is about bringing everyone together as a community and having a good time. There was so much to do there… everything from arts of styles and shapes, raising awareness in the community, food from a variety of vendors, hundreds of bands to choose to watch from multiple stages, different cultures and lifestyles, and if you’re like me, relax and people watch.

I have never been to ComFest before so this was going to be an experience for me. I arrived unsure what to expect. I walked around for a little bit to scope out what all the hype is about once a year. I started to look through all the vendors’ merchandise. I found a bunch of crazy, expensive, and awesome glass pipes. A tent that sold weird string puppets and shrunken heads which I thought were pretty freakin sweet (oh yeah and they had bowling pins with trippy pictures painted on them). I’m the person who doesn’t really buy merch, mainly because I can always talk my way into a free t-shirt. There was this jewelry tent that had a lot of neat hemp and natural jewelry. I need some new ear gauges and bought some new wood plugs. I also saw something in this tent that I had to get, it was a belt loop razor blade chain (yeah awesome right). Here it is:

There was such a variety of food, but there is also three days of Com Fest so you had time to eat it all. I think my favorite thing was the huge juicy turkey legs they served. I also enjoyed the hot corn dogs for a quick snack or a nice succulent pulled pork sandwich. Now I’ve heard that Columbus is a drinking city but I didn’t believe it until I saw the lines for beer. Labatt Blue and Columbus Wheat had three huge tents out there and every time I would go by I’d see them constantly changing out kegs (yes a lot of alcohol was consumed there).

I’ve never heard of any violence at ComFest, but Saturday when I was walking through the street I saw a man getting taken out on a stretcher. He had blood all over his chest and seemed lifeless. Come to find out the following Monday that the guy stabbed himself because he was on hallucinogens. So you also have to be aware what you might be taking there.

I met a lot of really cool and interesting people. There were ladies walking around with their chests painted, weird people you just don’t see everyday, and the occasional female who felt like molesting me.

All in all Community Festival was an amazing experience. From all the music, arts, foods and of course people watching I will definitely be attending for years to come. Next year, look me up. Let’s take our picture together.
